Old Museum

In 1972, the old railway building at Stobi was adapted into a modest exhibition space. It presented artefacts from the various periods in which the city existed.

The five display cases contained ceramic vessels, lamps, coins, metal objects and terracotta figurines. The space was complemented with maps and photographs of the buildings and the ongoing excavations. Along the southern wall stood a reconstruction of a grave with a cremated deceased. In the centre were placed parts of mosaics discovered in the synagogue and the Episcopal Basilica, and right beside them was the sculpture of the emperor found in the theatre.

Due to the deterioration of the museum building and the need for renewed conservation of the exhibited objects, the old museum at Stobi was closed in 2009.
