NI Stobi

National Institution for the Management of the Archaeological Site Stobi

The National Institution Stobi was established by a Decision of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on 26 August 2008 (Decision No. 19-3992/1, Official Gazette of R.M. No. 120/08) as a non-profit institution in the field of culture.

The institution was officially registered in the Central Registry of the Republic of Macedonia on 17 December 2008 under the full name National Institution for the Management of the Archaeological Site Stobi – Gradsko, with its seat at the archaeological site Stobi. Its short name is NI Stobi-Gradsko.

The rights to manage the archaeological site were transferred to the National Institution Stobi on 28 February 2009 (Decision of the Government of R.M. No. 19-893/1, Official Gazette of R.M. No. 33/09).

The National Institution Stobi was formed with the task of managing the archaeological site Stobi and caring for the archaeological excavations, conservation, maintenance, use, presentation and popularisation of the site.

The archaeological site Stobi is property of the Republic of Macedonia and represents a cultural monument of national interest of the first category. It was proclaimed a cultural monument in 1950 by Decision No. 1038 of 27 July 1950, adopted by the Central Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the P.R.M., and again in 1976 by Decision No. 01-134/1 of 21 January 1976 by the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments. It is recorded in the Central Registry of Cultural Monuments under number 39.

In the period 1970–1998, Stobi was under the jurisdiction of the National Museum Veles, and in 1998 responsibility was assumed by the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, later renamed the National Conservation Centre.
